China Vows to Complete Telecom/Broadcast/Internet Convergence in Next Three to Five Years
May 19, 2010
The project initiated by China's State Council, to converge telecom, broadcast, and Internet services, is expected to have a pan-China coverage within next three to five years, Taiwan's Want Daily reported on May 17. The project can be implemented in two phases: phase one during the period 2010-2012 will focus on telecom/broadcast convergence trial tests. Phase two during the period 2013-2015 will highlight on the commercialization of convergent services, according to the same source.

On January 13, 2010, Premier Wen Jiabao held the general meeting of the State Council, saying that China would accelerate its path to consolidate networks in the telecom, broadcast, and internet segments. Further details regarding the location of trial sites for three-network convergence, however, were not yet disclosed.
